Hi everyone! So in this blog post, I will be sharing with you few tips on how to achieve a perfect red lips!
Not everyone feels confident enough to pull off a red lips because they think that it could make them “look like a clown” or it just “doesn’t look good” on them. If you have been in this situation, do not fear because I have too! Well, girl! I am here to tell you that you are wrong! In my opinion, red lips makes every girl look super classy in their own way. The secret to that? It’s just a matter of finding the right shade for your skin tone :)
If you look at magazines or search up on google “Hollywood stars wearing red lips”, you will see that the majority of their make up is very minimal. This would either be just mascara or fake eye lashes with some black eye liner or just an added touch of very subtle and neutral eye shadows. Here are some of my favourite celebrity stars rocking the red lipstick!
# 1: Shop and select
A.) Find the lipstick that suits your skin tone the best
Remember that the key here is the lighter your skin tone, the better off you are with brighter red lipstick. The darker you skin tone, the better off you are with deeper and richer red lipstick.
Glamour Beauty from www.glamour.com recommended:
– Fair skin – Coral-y shades:
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Fire & Ice, $8 or Maybelline New York Color Sensational Lipstick in Are You Red-dy?, $7.50
– Medium skin – True red to pinky-cranberry shade:
CoverGirl TruShine Lipcolor in Valentine Shine, $7.50
– Dark skin – Deep rich shade like burgundy:
L’oral Paris Colour Riche Lipcolour in Red Rhapsody, $9
Rimmel in 400 Berry Queen
– I bought lots of Rimmel lip products and I must say that this brand has amazing lipsticks!
(well, the moisture renew collection, to be more specific, as I haven’t tried the other collections i don’t think :P).
Note: I recommend to check your local drugstore first, before you go on and spend extra money on “higher end” red lipsticks.
B.) Choose the closest match lip liner
After choosing the perfect lipstick, it’s now time for lip liner. If you find it hard to match, it’s okay because the lip liner will only be used as a guide and a base for the lipstick itself.
Annabelle in 205 Cherry
– This was about $4-$5. Really affordable but good quality!
If you haven’t found any that you like in the drugstores, I guess its time to visit Sephora or MAC and spend a little more on good quality lipsticks (though many of drugstore products are good quality as well). Also, you can check out online stores that sells beauty products.
Here’s a little swatch of both lip liner and lipstick!
# 2: Prep your lips
Remember that your lips MUST be nice and moisturized or the red lipstick will enhance any dryness of your lips.
# 3: Line your lips
You want to be extra careful with this step as much as possible. It takes lots of practice so take your time and it’s okay if it’s not that perfect. Nobody’s perfect!
# 4: Apply the red lipstick
Since the lip liner already did the harder job, this part is the fun part since we pretty much just apply the lipstick. Without the lip liner, it would be harder to trace along the lip line with a lip stick.
# 5: Clean up the smudges
If you made a little bit of smudging, you can always clean it up using a concealer. Use a lighter shade of concealer for more emphasis.
# 6: Apply a lip gloss
– This is optional. Remember not to apply too much of this because the red lipstick is already bold itself. We want to avoid “too much”.
